Help needed in find last residence in Italy before USA

Hi everyone,

Just need some researching technique advice or help. I am applying for dual citizenship and I have been been told that I should register the last comune my grandfather resided in Italy before coming to the US. I can find where my GGparent's last resided through their Ellis Island records. But I couldn't find my GF Ellis Island record. Any help would be appreciated. Here is some info.

Name: Rosario Genduso, born 1885, Ficuzza. (From Birth Cert)
Arrived March 24, 1905 on the "Citta di Naploi" from Palermo (From Dec of Intent).

My thoughts are that he used Palermo the province in the D of I rather than naming the comune. So my question is how to research it past this point and should I start at my GGparent's last residence, Marineo, and work the comune route?

Hi,

Ficuzza is not a town but a section or hamlet. There are three possible towns where it is located.

How did you get a copy of the birth certificate? Perhaps one of our Sicilian experts on the forum can tell us if this was once a town absorbed by another.

Hi misbris,

I wrote away to the Corleone comune (Ficuzza is part of it) and got my GF's Birth Cert extract.

I know that my GF was born in Ficuzza but not sure where he left from.

BTW - Yes that is my GGF record, he came over 2 years later than my GF.

I don't know why you would need to know this. Your Birth, marriage, death will be recorded in the place of birth of your last Italian born relatives. Who told you this? which consulate are you going to? Here is the NYC consulate web site:

It is weird that this would be needed as there wouldn't be any proof in terms of a certified record unless they were married there.
