Italian Birth Records

My grandfather's birth certificate from Montecorvino, Rovella has a date of September 1, 1892. He listed his birthday as August 21, 1892 on his WWI military registration. Also, my grandmother's birth certificate from Monopoli, Bari has a date of July 6, 1903, yet most of the family remembers her birthday as June 25, 1903. Does anyone know if the Italian records contain actual birthdates or the dates they were registered?

They should always have the date of the birth, if it is known, and also the date that the document was prepared.

EDIT to add:
If you get a photocopy of the page in the register of births, you'll find the date of the birth and also the date it was reported to the civil authorities.

Usually they contain both. In most cases, the date of the record is at the top and the date of birth is set forth in the body of the record.
