Getting birth certificate from Italy

Hi Everyone. I need a little guidance please.

I have finally found the birth place of my great-grandfather. He was born in Berceto Italy. A town between Parma and Genova. I have a dob of 1857 and the month & day could be 3 Feb, but not positive. Can you tell me the easiest way to get a copy of his birth certificate?

His wife was born in Parma abt 1856. Would the same instructions work for her too?

I know this is an old question for many of you, but right now it has become the most important thing I need to know. I'm surprised that no-one has yet responded.

I need to know how to send for a copy of my grandparents birth certificates in their respective home towns in Italy. Please some one give me a clue as to how to do it.

is the Italy Research Guide from the LDS Family Search site.
If the Family History Library doesn't have films for
your town, this guide will help you with addresses
and letter writing (in Italian).

Hi Everyone!
Just had to post some good news for a change.

I sent a letter to Berceto Italy, asking for my ggrandfathers birth record on 18 May 2007. I was very nervous about getting a response after all of the stories I see on here about waiting 3, 4 or even 5 months or not getting a response at all.

Well what a surprise for me. They took 5 days after they received the request and sent me a copy of the record I asked for. Unreal!

On top of that they did not ask for a payment to be sent for the info.

I am so happy about it, I was thinking of sending a donation to the local church or orphanage or something like that in the name of the person that helped me or my ggrandfather.

Does anyone have an opinion about how or what would be appropriate and not offensive? I would not want to offend anyone by what I do.

I think that would be a lovely gesture. Perhaps you could find out what the "mother church", chiesa madre is, and send it there. That will be the main church of the town and the easiest to find an address on!
