Will my niece be considered an Italian citizen?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Will my niece be considered an Italian citizen?

Post by ffxanthony »

Ciao,

I'm in the process of obtaining Italian citizenship under the 1948 rule through my great grandmother. Our case has been split in two, the first hearing was in November 2014 and our second, final hearing where we will get a decision is in March 2016 (massive gap unfortunately!)

The applicants are myself, my sister and my father. However, at the end of last month my sister gave birth to a baby girl. What I'm wondering is if our 1948 cases are won in March 2016, will my niece be eligible for citizenship, as she will have been born before the decision?

Any advice appreciated! :) Thanks!

You can ask your attorney to add your niece's birth certificate to your file.

As an alternative, you can wait until after your citizenship is recognized, and then your sister can register the birth of her minor child. Yes, the child is a citizen as are all your children. The date of recognition does not change this.
