Is there a surname database & if so how do I access it? I meant to say specifically for this forum on Italian Genealogy .com

Depends on what information you hope to find.

This site http://www.cognomiitaliani.org/cognomi/cognomi0001.htm lists common surnames, origins, and meanings.

There's also a search feature; you can search the forums for posts about a particular name (I think that's what you are looking for?)
