No, the orphanage have no sense for the birth act... he was born in Casamassima and the birth act must be in this town no doubts...
abt LDS microfilms yes it is extensive, but they microfilmed what available in Trani archive of state:
"Births, marriages, banns, marriage documents, deaths, miscellaneous documents, citizenship records. Includes death notices added to birth records. The supplemental records for 1866-1896 are all filmed together under: Bari (Provincia). Ufficio dello stato civile. The record no. (CCF no.) is 732518."

It doesn't say anything about him being put up for adoption. Could it be because he wasn't until he was older?

My grandmother is 93 years old, and she feels like she never knew her father. It would mean so much to her if she could learn where her father grew up. Showing her his birth certificate made her feel like she was finally starting to connect with him.

Does anyone have any ideas on how we could find out where he was an orphan? She said he was not taken in by any family.
