Re: Milano/Dattolo families
Yes, I do.
I was hoping to find their immigration for a clue about where they originated and some family information. The only thing I was able to find was a "Rosa", a single male, traveling alone. Nothing seemed to fit. I was hesitant to presume this might have been her. I have been thinking there may not be a good paper trail to their past.
I am visiting (daughter) Carmelita's brother-in-law on Sunday. He is Ralph Martire, 86 years old, whom I made a connection with recently. I will be providing him copies of documents I have found with their translations. Ralph had no knowledge of the original spellings of his surname (Mattora/Martora).
He speaks Italian but does not read it. He has pictures. He remembers my mother's family. His memories of the past should be fruitful. We are both looking forward to the visit. I have butterflies in my stomach. It should be an exciting day.

Re: Milano/Dattolo families
I have referred to montecalvocousins.com to confirm and expand my data on Rosa's family. Apparently, they have indexed births in Montecalvo 1809-1871 with dates and parentage. A search of these records indicates a significant difference in dates and parentage from the stated info on Rosa's manifest.
My question is this. Does anyone have any experience with this data base and have they found it to be reasonably accurate? I know that manifests are not always accurate and I am trying to weigh Rosa's info against it. As an example, it would seem to me that she should know who her father is. He is listed as Giuseppe, not Felice. Without any other confirming evidence, I have been trying to figure out which would be more likely to be most reliable.
If anyone has experience with this date base, please let me know.
Thank you,
Jim

Re: Milano/Dattolo families
Jim, if you're referring to arrival manifest then Felice was Rosaria's grandfather, not her father... Rosaria's mother was Farella Maria Michela and she's listed as widow on the 1913 arrival manifest.....

Re: Milano/Dattolo families
You are right Laura. I meant to indicate that Maria's father is listed in the index as Giuseppe. The index does not go to 1899 to check Rosa's parentage. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Milano/Dattolo families
No problem Jim... ...
I would consider "more" exact the dates form the Database... The indications on the arrival manifest could have benn incorrect, maybe Felice was Maria Michela's father in law or simply her father Felice's real first name was Giuseppe but people called him Felice?
However, no doubt it was her, her first name Maria Michela is not so common...
