I already have that information about him. I read his birth certificate already for a mircofilm from the local family center. His grandfather was Francesco. I just need a copy from the town.

What is "la Lista di Leva"? I wrote the provincial capital of my comune for my great great grandfather's birth record and the said that they had this. I am not sure what it is and if I would be able to use it to gain dual citizenship.

Look up the Name in the Italian white pages and it will show you all those living that share the Cardosi name. It looks like a lot are from Puglianella but there are many in the Lucca province.

Well, it seems like there are a few towns in northern Tuscany that have Cardosi as a last name. Just go here http://gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/ and see for yourself.

Check out his Naturalization records. I would have the town he came from and the correct spelling of his last name.

The date you gave has a bit of coincidence to it. Newsday has an article relating to the last name Sottile, but it is for milestones/births. There is a death notice in 1996 but in July of 1996. Unfortunately, you have to pay to read the article. Go on to Newsday.com and search, they have everything ...
