Searching for info on grandmother from Cosenza

Post by Dsato »

I am looking for some information on my Grandmother Dorothy (Dorthea)Casimira - Migliano-Dozzino (Rozzoni). She was born on December 18, 1888 and was an orhpan and taken in and raised by Mr and Mrs Salvatore Migliano. She was raised with James Migliano (Venzenzo) and Vincent Migliano and Pasquale Migliano and another brother that settled in South America. She also was raised with two sisters: Carmen (Suriano)Migliano and Carmello (Fero)Migliano. I was told that her real last name was Casimra. She married my grandfather (Ercole Dozzino (Rozzoni) on Sept,1907 and came to the United States in 1912 with her daughter Jessica. I hope someone has any information that could help me solve this puzzle.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Do you know where in Italy the family was from? Do you already have ship's manifests for your grandparents? I am a little confused about the name. Was it originally Rozzoni and changed, or just mispelled on records. Where in the US did the family settle? Are you looking just for Italian records? If you post some of this info, it will be easier for someone to help you.

the name on Ettore ship's manifest, it seem Dorotea CASOMINO and no Casimira( is a first name); Jessica, real first name : Maria, came with mother in Jun 10, 1913; on her ship's manifest the name is Dorotea CASIMIRA http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 0845%2ETIF
contact in Italy: stepmother Gelsomina GIACOBBE in Rota Greca...
Ettore ( aka Ercole) born in Celico the 20 Dec 1887 and lived in Rota Greca until USA immigration...
.......... Dorotea raised by MIGLIANO family, and Dorotea had the own birth surname( if she was orphan; also it is possible that she was a foundling).... regards, suanj

you can request the Dorotea CASIMIRA birth act in Rota Greca civil records office, and you can know if she was a orphan raised from Migliano family, or a foundling raised also by same family...

also you can know all by LDS microfilms of Rota Greca:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... umns=*,0,0
Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1910 Rota Greca (Cosenza). Ufficio dello stato civile

You're very welcome, we're happy to help :D !

If his parents’ names weren’t on his manifest,
chances are you’ll need to look for his vital records in
Italy…

The civil records for Celico, Cosenza, Calabria
are on available on microfilm from your local Famly
History Center.
You would need to go to the nearest center to order and
view the films. The cost is only abt $6.00 for 1 mos.
They will be in Italian, but most of us have used this
resource and have been able to noodle thru them with
practice.

LDS Family History Center:
FamilySearch home page
Italy Research Outline
Italian Genealogy Keywords

Microfilms available to order from their library:
Topic
Italy, Cosenza, Celico - Civil registration
Titles
Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1910 Celico (Cosenza).
Ufficio dello stato civile

When was the yr that he served?

Italian military service was mandatory,
Ercole was probably 18 - served abt 1905/6
