Acquaviva?

I am doing research on my husband's family. I found his paternal grandparent's immigration papers, which say their last residence in Italy was Acquaviva. My husband's father, who was born in the U.S. and passed away in 1992, always said they were from Abruzzo area. I have found several Acquaviva's in Italy. Does anyone know how I can find which one he actually came from? His name was Irineo Staniscia, and he married Assunta Valente. They immigrated to Philadelphia, PA., USA, in 1901.

Acquaviva - comune: Roccaspinalveti - province: Chieti - region: Abruzzo

Acquaviva is a hamlet of Roccaspinalveti. This is where your husband's ancestors' will be recorded.

Roccaspinalveti's civil registries 1809-1900 have been filmed by the LDS Church (Mormons)>

Your local FHC may have an Italian-Englisn dictionary available, but they will also have an Italian-English genealogical word list (small fee) that I find very helpful when translating the records.

Thank you so much. There is a FHC about 3 minutes from my home, so I'll go tomorrow and order the films.
Maybe you can help me also with my husband's mother's side. Her parents were Achille Santacroce and Assunta D'Urso from Formia. Achille immigrated to Philadelphia in 1900, and Assunta followed him in 1901. Do you happen to know if the LDS also happens to have films for this area?

Thank you. I do have the ship's manifest and the WWI and WWII Draft cards, as well as 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses. I believe I've found everything that I can on Ancestry.com and the Ellis Island site, so I guess the next step is trying to get records from Italy.

The LDS does have films for Formia, but only for 1808-1865.

Request should be in Italian. When writing include a self addressed return envelope, a copy of your photo ID & if you can get them several international reply coupons. These are obtained from your main post office. People are having trouble getting these & I have heard that even without them you get a response. They pay for the return postage, so it's a small price to pay if you can do it.

Yes, the posted records are for my husband's family. "Son Chiarina" is actually a daughter who was called Clara here in the US, and Irineo, or "Frank" here in the US, was 23 when he came over, not 33, and his wfe's maiden name, "Valente", was listed on the ships manifest as her first name, which was Adorina, I made an error on my first post and put Assunta, which is the name of the my husband's maternal grandmother. Over here Adorina was called Annie. . When they came to PA they lived with her brother Pietro Valente. After much searching, I now have them in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses, and WWI and WWII draft cards for Irineo, as well the ship's manifest and a detainee record. They were detained at Ellis Island for three days while Adorina's brother wired them the money to travel from New York to PA. It's amazing how the names were mangled on some of the censuses.
