Post by Carnie »

Can anyone give me information on my Grandfather Francesco Carnevale from Pico? He was born 5th May 1875, his father was Antonino, and mother Sassia.

Thanks for any help, Grandson Mike.

Hi Mike,

We will try to help you but first there are some questions for you since there are a few Francesco out there that were born in the same year or very close...

What exactly do you wish to know? Did he ever go to the US? Canada? England? What was his wife's maiden name and did he have any brothers or sisters?

Looking forward to your reply...

Mike,

Thanks for updating me. Will follow up on leads when I get in. If you like, you can search ancestry.com free immigration records as well unless Nov 30 to view manifests. They hold some pretty good clues. I warn you though..there are over 2000 with your surname.

Another great site is stevemorse.org. Unfortunately images were down this morning. Not sure whats happening with that site..I can only assume they are updating it.

Will check in later.

I have since found out that my Grandfather Francesco Carnevale, his father and mother were called Antonino & Sassia. There is a road in the Village of Pico called Via Antonino Carnevale.
Is anyone able to provide any details on the above information?
The site is fantastic and so helpful.
Thanks, Mike Carnevale.

Mike, my family is also from Pico and I have cousins that are Carnivale's. I am a Lombardi. The other cousin families from Pico are Conti's and Lossini's. We are in contact with family there and traveled there several years ago. I am oginally from Providence, Rhode Island, USA. A lot of your family is there. I have a cousin Bryan Conti who has put the family tree together. From what I know, a Carnevale married one of my Grandfather's (Salvatore Lombardi) sisters and that is how we became cousins with the Carnevale's. Same with the Conti's and Lossini's. I believe my grandfather was born around 1890 or so. What was your grandmother's maidan name?

Tons of Lombardi's. Carnevale's, Lossini's and Conti's immigrated to Providence, RI from Pico. There were so many that they formed the Pico Society. Carnevale is a very common name, but Pico is a very small town. Don't know how your family got over to England, but I think the majority of them are in Providence. I currently live in Easton, Pennsylvania but all my relatives are still in RI.

I am hoping that Joe replys to my last message, I feel sure that he may be able to shed some light on any of the Carnevale clan from Pico.
Here's hoping.

With over a thousand viewings of my original request, I find it hard to take in that there has been no real replys except Nuccia . I never got any replys from JoeLo, so if anyone can advise I would be very grateful.
Here's hoping once again.

Hi Mike :D ,
It's great that you have your grandfather's exact birthdate!
Did he immigrate? To where?
Do you have his wife's & children's names?
Are you looking for Italian, US, UK records?
We're ready to help, just need a few more details.
OK?

Mike..

Please PM me when you get the chance. Hopefully we can get you some answers. I'm sorry its taken this long. Perhaps it may have been a better decision to post in the Italian Genealogy Board instead of the Locations In Italy.

But in any case, there are several of our members who live in Italy and should be able to provide you with some help. Lets see what we can do..

Here is a map of Pico..

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?tb ... country=IT

Here is the address where you can write away for more info on the family..you may want to request birth or death records, etc..Sassia was his mothers first name..do you know her maiden name?

http://en.comuni-italiani.it/060/051/

You can use this site for help in writing standard form letters..

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

From the Italian White Pages, a listing of the Carnevale currently living in Pico..

Carnevale Phone Listings

Hope this gives you a head start.. :D

Mike..

Manifests for your consideration..I can't prove they are your relatives but you can look them over and see if you can follow their footsteps throught he Us to see if they pop up where Francesco did. then you have two choices,,,begin ordering microfilms from the LDS which can confirm the relationship, or write away for birth records.
