Hello,
My grandmother's grandfather was from Torino, Italy. His last name was Maffeo. Do you know if there is a place where I can find his birth certificate? We would like to know if there are other family members in Torino. He moved from Italy to South America back in 1888. Please if you can help me with this info. Thanks!

If you give us your grandfather's full name and year of birth, we probably could help you more.

However, in the meantime, the Family History Center does have microfilm for the town of Torino. The film costs about $5.75 a roll depending on where you are located. On the film, you can find copies of the birth, marriage, and death acts of your ancestors. Here is the link for the film numbers.

If you order the microfilm, it is going to be in Italian. However, you will be able to understand. Also, a good book to get is "A Genealogist's Guide to Discovering your Italian Ancestors", by Lynn Nelson. It's a great book and simple to read and use.

Also, if you are looking for records or writing for records, your grandfather's name will be Giuseppe. That is the Italian version of the name of Joseph.
