I too looked but cannot find Tommaso DiFilippo but a DeFilippo... probably not him.. as he wouldn't have a WW1 Draft record..

Providing a year of birth ... would give us better direction... ??

Just found a mis-transcribed manifest..... what I don't understand ... is his name is clearly typed in D i F i l l i p o but yet they have him transcribed as D e F i l l i p o :?

... from Campobasso who travels with father Felice...

Name: Tommaso Defilippo
Arrival Date: 22 Dec 1920
Age: 12 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1908
Gender: Male
Ethnic Background: Italian
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Cretic
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Friend's Name: Vincenzo Calvano
Last Residence: Italy
Microfilm Roll Number: 258

If this is not your Tommaso you may need to give us more info...

How do you know he came through Boston Harbor??

Many Thanks everyone :D :D
I'm trying to trace my grandfather's brother and his family who may have travelled to America and while doing a Rank search using Ancestry.com yesterday the name came up twice.
He was born in Italy (Sant'Elia)1885 and was married to Forunata Soave
they had a young family and as far as I can find out the last one to be born in England was in 1888. it seems that my grandfather and his brother stayed at the same address in London. My grandfather came to Glasgow about 1893 but there is no mention of Tommaso and his family coming with them. I have checked Ellis Island using Stevemorse site but came up with nothing. May need to try the census. The surname has always been a problem many variations used, but on Tommaso's children's birth acts the name is Difilippo and on one his Christian name was put down as Thomas
Many thanks again for taking the time to do this for me it is gratefully appreciated. One day I WILL complete this jigsaw

Love xx

Here's mention of a grandfather Tommaso... see line 19 (section 12)

Not sure if he is the same one! Just interesting to see the Soave - DeFilippo connection...

Maria
It says Fortunato but his wife's name was Fortunata but could be a misprint in the manifest but I cant read the ships manifest I cant get it to enlarge. Must go and have another try. I'll need to double check again and see if any more children were born here, perhaps they went back to Italy before going to America. I just feel so excited. Must go and email my cousin.
Thanks a million
Lots of love XX

Hi Emmy...

I did look to see if it was a misprint... but what caught my eye was the other passenger below who had some kind of a connection to a Tommaso...

I will review the manifest further too a little later and put down the details...... got dinner going here... and will check back on and off...

Hi Maria I really do think you've hit the jackpot because I went back into Stevemorse andI was able to read the manifest and it says they went to an Antonio Defilippis, Believe it or not that is the name of another brother of my grandfather, I've been looking for him too. I coulndt see any trace of the name Forunato Soave but I'm not all that good at doing the ships manifest yet One word I couldnt understand was written below Antonio's name it looked like 'Ouronzo' but the first letter could be an 'A'
This would seem all to fit in with what we have been led to believe that my grandfathers brothers went to America but I just cant understand why I cant find the records of them going because if I'm right it would mean that my grandfather and my uncle were already living in America but it doesnt say where or have I missed that part?
Cant believe all this but there are too many things matching for it not to be them.
Many many thaks Maria

Hi Maria
Found out how to enlarge image, it was staring me in the face   I found out what you meant about Tommaso DeFilippis being down as grandfather but that seemed to match up to a 16 year old child Ciccone Benedetta but it could be the that one of his daughters married . The other things that ties it all up is that they all came from Sant'Elia Fiumerapido. Far too many coincidences for it not to be them. They were going to Mich. Detroit but it doesnt say where Tomaso's destination was to be. But I'm assuming it would be Detroit too. Must try to find out when Antonio and Tomaso went to America. But from this it seems that some of the family must have gone back to Italy at some point. Where to go from here now? :? Is there any way of finding the actual address they went to?
:D :D I'm going to have difficulty sleeping tonight, this has been fantastic. :D :D

Hi Emmy, :P :P :P

My concern was whether Tommaso was old enough to be a grandfather... so I had some doubts...

I know what it's like to see an ancestral manifest and have that "without a doubt" feeling that this is family...

If anyone can find a 1920 census record that would be great....

Lots of things to look for.. lots to look forward to... Glad to see how happy you are!!

This manifest that I posted earlier is not the one... Auronzo Italy (maybe Auronzo di Cadore) is Northern Italy...
