Agnone to Chicago

Post by BethW »

Is there anyone out there whose family emigrated from Agnone, Isernia, Molise (formerly part of Campobasso, Abruzzo) to Chicago?

Love to hear more

Hi Jim,

I think we have compared notes, at least partially, before.

On my great-grandfather's side the main names are:

Orlando, di Menna, Totaro, Amicone, Venditto, Maddalena, Marcovecchio and Serricchio.

On my great-grandmother's side the main names are:

Gamberale, Antonelli, di Lollo, Cerimele, Quaranta, Appugliese, Diana and Carosella.

Regarding the names that you gave, I have:

-Maria Nobila Appugliese (early 1800's), dau. of Gaetano Appugliese, son of Nicola Appugliese.

- Maria Nicola Orlando (mother-in-law of Ma. Nicola Appugliese), daughter of Antonio Orlando and Pasqua Calorza.

- Gracella Paolantonio (married to Francesco Totaro) and Domenica Paolantonio (married to Paolo di Lollo). I don't have any information on their parents but they both lived in the early to mid 1700's.

- I also have a Giacinta Serafini (married to Pasquale Quaranta) who was also from the 1700's. Again I have no information on her parents.

- My main Orlando line starts with my grandmother Dora Orlando and goes Dora - Emidio (m. Raffaela Gamberale) - Cristanziano (m. Ma. Fedela di Menna) - Domenicangelo (m. Falca Totaro) - Sabatino (m. Candellora Venditto) - Giustino (m. Fedela Palotta) - Felice (m. Ma. Carmina d'Ascenza/Carmina Marcovecchio) - Nicola (m. Domenica Pellinco)

Some of the other names (Odorisio, di Pasqua, Amicarelli, and Massaniso) show up in peripheral lines.

I'd really love to fill in as many gaps as possible.

It seems that many of the Agnonesi went to places like Youngstown or Pueblo to work in the mines. In the beginning mine went to Chicago to work on the railroads.

By the way, did any of your family have any connection to Crivitz or Athelstane, Wisconsin?

Hi, I just joined this forum. One of "my lines" I'm researching is CAROSELLA. I have traced them to Agnone, Campobasso (early 1700's), Vito Carosella and Feliceantonio Carosella moved to Civitavecchia (now Duronia) in 1770's where the gave origin to 2 families, I traced 80 individual Carosella in Duronia until 1870's from them, then they started emigrating to USA (mainly the area of New Jersey), Argentina, Australia, etc. The "original Carosella from Agnone were ONOFRIO CAROSELLA and RUFFINA MICARELLI (both born around 1720's).
Is anyone doing this reseach? And the Catasto Onciario for Agnone 1753?
Thank you, Enrico

My great great grandfather was Giovanni Orlando (1853). Giovanni was married to Diomira Dagnillo (D'Agnillo, D'Aguiello???) (1856). His father was Dominico Orlando and his mother was Rachael Ferrara. I believe Giovanni had a brother named Pietro born about 1870, and he was married to Filomena Picicacco.

There were other Orlando's named Antonio (1880) who was married to Giancinta that lived within doors of them in the 1930s; however, I am unsure of any relation.
