looking for Cergnul Family

Post by cerg »

cergnulk@yahoo.com
Hello,
My name is Kristina Cergnul. I am looking for my ancestors. My great grandfather Giovanni Cergnul and his family to be exact. Giovanni was born in Albona, he had 3 brothers Antonio, Matteo and Frank.Matteo had 2 daughters I was told that they might both be nurses. Antonio I believe was in the mititary of sort. Matteo at one time was taken to a concentration camp in Germany I believe around 1935, he was possibly married to a woman named Elsa. The boys' parents names I believe was Matteo and Maria Cergnul. At one time Marie was burned very badly when her dress caught fire.Please anybody out there who and can help let me know I have been trying to find something on these ancestors for a long time. thank you for any help you may beable to give me.

Albona is an istrian city
Till 1918 it was under Austro-Hungarina administration
From 1918 till 1946 was under italian administration
From 1946 till 1992 was under jugoslavian administration
Actually is under croatioan administration.

I do believe that Matteo was in concentration camp in Germany during WWII, not in 1935.

Hey,

Thank you all for the information. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier I had my son's baseball game to go to.

Yes the war record look to be my Great Grandfathers. The obit is my Great Aunt's. I had seen those before, I was surprised to see the census record though I had never seen that before. It was very interesting. Does anybody know how I would find out about his brothers and parents. I have some letters that were written to Giovanni from his family in Italy.But I am not sure the area the came from as I do not have the envolope the came it. They are dated from 1929 to 1955. I know what year Maria? Giovanni's mother died but have no clue how to find anything else out. I do not speak nor read Italian which makes it very diffcult to search the websites. Again Tthank you all so much!!!! :D

Hi I found some more information and would like an opion on what to do next please.

Giovanni's brother MAtteo was married to a women named Elsa they had a son name unknown and 3 daughters Giulia 7 yrs, Maria 9 yrs, and Maria 5 yrs. these names and age came from a letter that Elsa wrote to Giovanni in June of 1934.

Antonio I have found a couple different addresses for him do these mean anything to you?
Carabinere Antonio Cergnul
C/O Carabinieri Station CCRR
(Monfalcone)
Naval Division
Provonce of Trieste

Another address that I found is :
Aunt Elena Stepancich
Via Adamelo #1, Fiume

Also Matteos' daughters were all working as nurses in Belgrade in 1951. I hope that somebody has some advice on how to find these people and any other Cergnul's that are still out there. Hope to hear from someone soon.

to locate persons in Italy use the following site.......

http://www.paginebianche.it/index.html

surname = cognome

dove = town

click on cerca and this will pull up address and phone numbers.

if you need a letter for translation, here is a link for that as well.....

I cannot understand what you need with precision.. Italian civil records of Giovanni? or you search the living descendants of Antonio? You search the Stepancich line?

however:

in another post, about same family, I read:

I am trying to find information on my Great Grandfather Giovanni Cergnul. He was born in 1893 in I believe Albona. His parents names were Matteo and Maria Cergnul. He also had three brother Antonio, Mike, and frank. There are a few more names that I know of but I do not know where they fit in the family.They are Lisa Cergnul, Elsa Cergnul, and Julia Cergnul who I believe was a cousin to Giovanni. Giovanni came to the US in 1913 on the SS Carpathia leaving from Fuime. Also does anybody know how to look at census records online for this area? Thank you for any help you may beable to give me.

I am looking for the Cergnul family. I know some of their names and the area that they were from. Matteo was married to a woman named Maria. They had children named Antonio, Frank , Giovanni,and matteo and maybe a Joseph.Giovanni was born in Albona. Can anyone help me with that location or the family names? I do have a little more info, but not much more. Giovanni came to America around 1914.Anything that you think could help will be greatly appreciated.

I found:
