Defazio, Carolina

Post by micheleantonio »

:?:
I am looking for any info on Carolina Defazio, from the Catanzaro area, possibly Carlopoli - Castagna area. Came to the US in 1902, with two other sisters. One was called Giuseppina I believe.
Don't know if parents ever came. She was not naturalized. I have searched all regular databases and I do not believe the LDS covers these years for the provincia.

Looking for either personal knowledge of her, anyone who knew the family, or may know families in Italy that are related.

Thanks

There are only two listings for your surname in the area of Catanzaro.
I also used a variety of spellings to see if any persons showed up.
The listings are as follows.....

LUIGI DEFAZIO
28, V. F. NICOTERA
88046 LAMEZIA TERME (CZ)

and

FRANCESCO DEFAZIO
15, V. LACO
88054 SERSALE (CZ)

Other posters have sent potential relative letters with success.....you have nothing to lose by trying and may gain lost cousins!!!!!!

Good Luck......

Looking for either personal knowledge of her, anyone who knew the family, or may know families in Italy that are related.
Hopefully someone will read your post and provide you personal knowledge about Carolina.

Forum members here research American documents such as census and ship records (and more)...

Were you able to locate a ships record?

All I could find as of yet, is a Carolina Fazio (no Di or DeFaz...), b1878, (father Giuseppe) but from Verbicaro Italy... about 98 miles north from Carlopoli, 1902 ship record... . There are others, but the birth year's not even close.

How did you find out she immigrated in 1902?

Have you researched any census records? If it's census record information you would like to see, please provide her husbands name and birth year, children, and area settled in.
I am looking for any info on Carolina Defazio, from the Catanzaro area, possibly Carlopoli - Castagna area.
Hopefully we can confirm or determine which town she was from... just need more information from you.

Hi Michelantonio,

Without us knowing what you have for information, we can only make suggestions. I'm here to make more suggestions to you as well as tell you a few things that you may or may not know.

Women did not have to be naturalized. She automatically became a citizen when her husband was naturalized or she married an American Citizen. The only way a woman could become naturalized would be if her husband died and she continued with the process. It wasn't till after 1927 that women then became naturalized themselves.

Now since you have an approximate death year for Carolina, why don't you write for the Death Certificate for her in Pennsylvania. Here is the link to where to write in New Castle, PA as well as where you can download the PDF file form to use.

http://www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/healt ... 8&Q=202275

Also, I do suggest that you can either do a 10 year search for $34 or send two requests in for 1926 & 1927 which would cost you $18. The Death Certificate could list the parents' names.

Now since you know about research, do you have the Marriage Application of Carolina DeFazio and Antonio Vienincasa (aka-Frank)? What you want is the Marriage Application for it has more information on such as ages at the time of marriage, or exact dates of birth, it also could list the parents' names, etc. Here is the where to write for the Marriage Application, I would call to find out how much it costs for the Application.

MARRIAGE RECORDS:
For marriages that occurred in Lackawanna County from October 1885 to present: Marriage Bureau
Lackawanna County Court House
Courthouse Square
Scranton, PA 18503
(570) 963-6708

Now this is where to write for the Naturalization Records for Antonio and Eugene if you are interested in finding out where they are from. I will tell you write now that the people there are so friendly. The last time I wrote there, the fee was about $15 for the records, but I would call to double check their fees.

Prothonotary’s Office
Luzerne County Courthouse
200 North River Street
Wilkes Barre, PA 18702
(570) 825-1745

Now per the two towns that you mentioned. The Family History Center does have microfilm but it's limited.

Here is the link for the film numbers for Castagna.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

Here is the address for Castagna
Comune di Castagna
Ufficio Anagrafe
G. Corazzo S.n. (via)
88040 Castagna CZ

Here are the film numbers for Carlopoli
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

Here is the address for Carlopoli
Comune di Carlopoli
Ufficio Anagrafe
Municipio S.n. (piazza)
88040 Carlopoli CZ

Here is the link to find the nearest Family History Center
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

Here is a link that will help you translate you letter into Italian.
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

Now I hope this is of some help to you and can help you find more clues about your ancestors.
