Searching for Tommasi's and hit a Wall - Help?

Post by waaa »

Hello,
I've been searching through the forums and haven't found any hints, so I figured I would post and see if someone could maybe throw me a line...

I've gotten as far as the family coming to New York from Sicily but don't seem to be able to get much further, here's what I have thus far:
Michael Tommasi married Sebastiana (Anna) Falbo in Pachino, Italy. They had 6 children: Corrado T., Salvatore L., Antoinette, Michael Gabriel, Francesco J., and Guy J.

Michael Tommasi was the son of Corrado Tommasi and Antoinette Alezzio, along with 8 siblings: Michael, John, Joe, Salvatore, Marriano, Anthony, Vincent, Sebastiano, and Grace.

I have very limited information on that generation and much less as I go up the family tree. My Aunt Tony (Antoinette) believes that Corrado's parents were Michael and Grace - again, I have not been able to find anything on them.

I have found that there are many Tommasi families throughout Sicily, as it appears to have been a common surname. There are still a dozen or so Tommasi's in Pachino, but alas, I do not speak the language.

Does anyone have any assistance that they could offer? Any/all help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Forum
We would be happy to help!
Its generally recommended that folks gather all of their US records before searching for family records in Italy. With exact birth dates and names it's easier to confirm that you are researching the correct family in Pachino and Melilli.
Do you need help locating any US records?
Thank you, Valarie

Hi Valarie,

Thanks for the feedback. The information below matches with what I have - I had an account with Family Tree Maker for awhile and was able to gather some of that information (as well as a login on the Ellis Island site). I 'think' I've gone about as far as I can go with the US information, at least as best as I can tell. The interesting thing on my Aunt Tony (Annie Tomas/Antonia Tommasi above), she was actually born on the boat on the way to Italy 10 months prior to their return.

I did check the family search site by the Latter-Day Saints, but found nothing... :(

I have Michael Tommasi (1882-1954) and Anna Falbo (1889-1939). Unfortunately, date wise, that's as good as I have going back.

I have been told that Michael Tommasi delivered the family wine from Pachino to the neighboring villages. One of the villages was Mellini, where he met and fell in love with Anna Falbo. Beyond that, I have very little.

Suggestions as to where to go next?

Thanks

Hi waaa,

I happen to have info on one Corrado Tommasi and Antonina, (unfortunately I couldn't make out her lastname, the only letters I could make out were two z's.) They married in 1881, Pachino.

His parents were Michele Tommasi and Concetta Calvo and they were also married in Pachino, in 1846.

Not sure if this is the right family, if so, I have even further than this.
Good luck!
