Hi.
I'm new so be patient with me. lol.
I'm researching my family history on my father's side.
His parents were born in San Marco in Lamis, Foggia, and emigrated toMelbourne, Australia. I'm after information about any other Pignatelli's in that area who did not migrate anywhere else.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Pignatelli family history
The name Pignatelli derives from Pignatta=pot, pan. There is an ancient noble family with that name, this is their Coat of Arms:

It says the family is from Bari. Could there be a possibility somebody from the family moved to San Marco in Lamis?

Re: Pignatelli family history
The surname is spread all over Italy...
Re: Pignatelli family history
I posted this on another thread but this is probably the more appropriate place.
Does anyone think the Pigman family name could be an Anglized version of the Pignatelli Name?
My y-dna (R1b1b2a1a2d3/S28/L2+) came back Italian. Anyone with similiar y-dna out there?
There are family stories that my immigrant ancestor came to America in the late 1600's from Italy and had to leave there because of political reasons. There are other stories that we were a French family. I think maybe a French speaking family from the area of Piedmont/Pignerolo Italy.
Can someone help me with this lifelong quest for the origins of my family?
Thanks,
Curtis

I'm not sure Pigman. My grandparents immigrated to Australia 70 years ago so I'd have no clue, sorry.

Have you or any of your Pignatelli male relative done the y-dna test? I sure would like to compare notes! The test is very easily done by swabbing the inside of your cheek with a long q tip like swab. They can send you a kit for testing if you are interested.

Funny to find this by google.
My name's also Pignatelli, I live and I'm born in Belgium, Europe. My father was born in San Marco in Lamis, Foggia, Italy in 1949. His parents (my grandfather and grandmother, nonno and nonna) moved to Belgium in 1950. My grandfather was named Agostino. My father still has family living in San Marco in Lamis, uncles and aunts, cousins etc...but I don't know their names.
I can still ask my father if he knows more about our family-tree, first thing I should ask is ofcours the name of my great-grandfather. I asume he knows the name...
The Pignatelli's are spread all over the world, and in Italy there are about 1200 people with the name. I also found that the origin of our name should be situated around Napoli, not so far from San Marco in Lamis (about 140miles).
I've also found a family-tree of a Pignatelli-family going back to the year 1102, they also had a coat of arms with the three pots.
