Ven Ditti?

Post by danielvenditti »

I cant find any information on my family history. Loretto Ven ditti was my great grandfather (he married a Antonetta Lombardi). He came to america in 1907 on a ship from napels. I have letters from our family that are written in italian from Sora, Italy.

When he arrived in america the name some how got changed. IT was chanded to Van Dittie. All my letters from my family from Italy that were written to my Grandfather were signed Ven Ditti. I had my name changed back to the orignal spelling. Can anyone help me get started on tracing my family root?

Any help would be greatly appericated! Thanks all and Hello!

Hello Daniel and Welcome to the Forum !
We'll all be happy to see what we can do to help.

Do you have your g-grandfather's ship manifest from 1907?
Do you have any of your family's US records: census, military, etc?
Where did your family live in the US?

Thanks! Valarie

I think Loreto's wife's name may have been Antonietta, she along with son James (Vincenzo?) probably arrived after 1910. (to Chgo)

This is probably Loreto's manifest, but it is mislinked at Ellis Island. Do you have it already?

Venditti seems to be a common name from Sora.

You're right there are even two Loreto's immig in 1907 - one headed to Canada, born only one year apart
The family headed to Chgo may not be the correct one

Hey Lee!
Checked the site (thanks!)
Nothing under Venditti or Van Dittie, then tried Loreto & Loretto and even
just born in Sora.
I think son James (Vincenzo) moved to Colorado.
Still not sure that this is the correct family, more Loreto Venditti's
keep popping up on ancestry.

Hey Biff :D !
Great find!
According to the 1907 manifest, there was a notation in 1942 - so he had
to be somewhere!
1907 manifest markings: 11-351360-505 11/21?/42, 11=Chicago

Hi, Valarie!

Good pick up on the naturalization markings from the 1907 manifest.

Interesting that he remained in Chicago while the rest of the family moved west.

Hopefully, Dan will check back in and clarify or post information on Loreto's wife.
