Tracking down emmigrant info (Vicenza Capaccio)...

Post by Svxcess »

Hello, my name is Todd Boyko. I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. I am trying to track down any historical information (copies of birth certificate, marriage certificate, whatever may be out there) on my great, great grandmother who immigrated to the United States from a province in Campagnia, Italy back around 1897. Her name was Vicenza Capaccio and she was born in 1866. She sailed from Naples on the Patria and arrived in New York on November 28, 1897.

I’m not sure what department to contact in Campagnia to find this information.

I know she sailed with two of her children whose names were Rosa Torre and Alfonso Torre.

Any information would be greatly appreciated; birth certificates, information on the town she lived in, information on her father or mother or husband.

I have some original documents from Italy that are in Italian that may be useful but I’m not sure what they say.

I attached the documents if they'll help (?)

Is there a website I can go to or a place I can contact to try to get this information?

Thank you very much for any help.

Sincerely,

Todd Boyko

Hello, Todd and Welcome!

For reference:
1897 Patria manifest for Vincenza and children

Last residence on the manifest appears to be Campagna which is a town in the province of Salerno in the region of Campania. Campagna also appears to be the town where her and her children's passport was granted on the first document you posted.

I have another question: it looks like then that the passport and the birth certificate are for two different people?

Is there anyway for me to find out who Vincenzina Greco is and why we've had her birth certificate for the past 100 years? I'm not really sure if I've ever heard anyone in my family talk about anyone with the last names Greco or Bracale.

Any additional info would be appreciated.

Thanks again!

Well, the birth certificate was released on July 1st, 1938, so you have had it only for 70 years... :P

Thanks again.

Out of curiousity, does that mean that someone in my family would have requested it? How would I have got this if I don't know who it is? Yikes!

Hi Bill,

The informatipon I have is sorta spotty but here is what I think I know for sure:

I have a great, great grandmother named Vincenzina Greco born August 08, 1867 in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. She married a man with the last name "Taglianetti" at some point in Italy but I don't know his first name and when or where they were married.

I believe her father's name was Giovanni Greco who was born around 1838 in Italy (he may have been born in Cosenza as well; I think he lived on Via Rivocati at some point in Cosenza).

I believe her mother's name was Gaetana Broccolo (married Giovanni Greco, above) who was born around 1840 (possibly in Cosenza).

She had at least one child named Attilio (Taglianetti) who was born in Italy (I believe somewhere in Campagna) on December 28, 1886.

Not sure if any of this ties in but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bill!
Sincerely,
Todd Boyko

I actually have the LDS PAF program and have inputted information back to 1781 on the Greco line. I cannot find any further information and looking here to see if there is any further information that i can get.
Here is the current information on the Greco's that i have.
My Mom:
Grazia Rosaria Maria Greco daughter of
Renato Greco [(1921-1991) and Antonietta Albarta Evelina Ferdinandi (1924- present)] son of
Alberto Greco[(1891-1971) and Maria Panico (1885-1959)] son of
Michele Salvatore Antonio Greco [(1850-?) and Maria Giuseppa Schiavelli (1854-1919)] son of
Giuseppe Donato Salvatore Greco [(1817-?) and Margherita Damiani (1822-1919?)] son of
Donato Greco [(1781-1841) and Domenica Marzotta (1789-1849)] son of
Anonio Greco[(?-?) and Antonia Puce (1752-1820)]

My mom was the one who obtained this information but cannot find any further information. I am not sure how this is accurate after Michele Salvatore Greco.

If anyone has any information or need some further information, please let me know. Any information is greatly appreciated!
Best!!!
