Thank you for all the info. I have made contact with cousin Nick. I will try to send the marriage and birth info for translation. It is Cantolupo nel Sannio where Bambina is from. The birth certificate is I believe from Veneafro for my grandmother Assunta. :P Sharon

well, the right surname spelling is GAGLIA and no DE GAGLIA.. the birthplace is Cantalupo nel Sannio as I said...

"In the year 1874, of day 2 April, at the hour anti-meridian 10, in the Town Hall, I Gennaro Di Majo Major and civil records officer of Cantalupo Nel Sannio Common, in my presence apparead Pietrangelo Gaglia of 35 old, son of Arcangelo, born and domicilied in this Common, that present us an female child, so that by eyes we recognized it, and he declare that same child is been born in 31 march of same year at 10 hour post-meridian, from legitimate wife of him Scolastica MANFREDI of late Raffaele, of age 32 seamstress, born in this Common, and him cohabitant in the residence house situed in this Common in contrada Via del Popolo ( address) and that it declare of to give at child the first name of Maria Bambina... (etc..: always the same phrases in the end of all birthacts.. name withnesses, profession etc.. no important! the important is the birthplace the birthdate, the paternity!)

Note: Maria Bambina Gaglia married in the 17 December 1895 at Nicola Borrelli... "
so you now know all that you need, where and when and who.. regards, suanj

suanj,

Wow, thanks so much, I did not know it was her birth record. And now we have her father's father, Arcangelo. Also places of origin. Sorry for the confusion of not finding the thread. Being new to the site I didn't look to see if there was another page!

Very much appreciation,
Sharon

suanj,

Thanks again for all your wonderful help. Seems Nicola is quite a mystery as no parents or siblings are listed and says he lives in Venafro but may not have been born there. I also have different birth years for him 1870, 1871 & 1873 from different documents. I've been going by his death certificate which has a date of birth as Dec. 6, 1870. Any suggestions as to what I should do next? The only family story I have is that before he met Bambina he may have been studying to be a priest. He left and his mother was very angry (placed a curse on the family) another long story. I can see why he left. We also think he had an older brother and a crippled sister with blonde hair maybe by the name of Carmella. I tried searching microfilm documents from Venafro but with no success. That's how I found my grandmothers record.

Still missing him,
Sharon

Hi Sharon, the problem is that on Assunta birthact is that Nicola and Maria Bambina was no married.. otherwise all more easy.. I understand when you say that it have been studying to be a priest, yes, he studying in the SEMINARIO (priesthood) that is a right school for priest, and are so much in Italy and also in Molise... You asked the civil records of Nicola in Venafro City Hall? I believe that they married after Assunta birth, because in maria Bambina ship's manifest, she is listed as married woman... You can ask this marriage record in Venafro? they must married abt 1895/1896.. you can write...

It will be very helpful to find the second ship's manifest... .. let me know your suggestions, regards, suanj

Thank you suanj. I will see if I can contact them. I am working on the other side of my family also for their geneaolgy (Casparino, Tortorello) but will do it at a later date after I have exhausted all I can find on Nicola. My cousin Nick may continue on the Procaccini side? Thank you again for being such a valuable resource.

All my best to you,
Sharon
