Mosca is listed as the base name for all other italian surnames emanating from that base surname..But what is most interesting is that the varfiations, alterations, and derivations of theMosca surname are in distinct areas of ItalyMusca is clearly Sicilian and Calabrian, Muscas from Sardinia, Moschitta from the Veneto area while Moscariello is from Campania region During the middle ages Mosca was either a first name or a nickname signifying small, ungraceful or fastidious while Moscardo and Moscardino derived from Moscardo and Moscardino are regional names for types of plasterers trowels, scythes and also a type of small squid. =Peter=

I imagine that the common housefly was the pretext for the nickname and first name to come into use during the early middle ages for the word Mosca. (I wonder what the housefly was in Latin during Roman times??) =Peter=

Sambuca is an Italian aniseed-flavored colorless liqueur.
In Italy it is common to serve neat Sambuca with some floating coffee beans dropped on it: it is called Sambuca con mosca (literally, "Sambuca with flies"). The beans are there as an ornament, but they can be chewed to exalt the taste of anise.

Dear Livio I drink Sambuca with caffe nero but I assumed it was a coffee bean but was not sure since good Mexico Tequila has a worm floating inthe bottle. =Peter=

Ciao Jason,
My grandmother Giovanna Maffucci married my grandfather Giuseppe Di Pasquale. My grandmother was born and married my grandfather in Calitri and my grandfather was born in Deliceto, Foggia Puglia. They married in about 1910. I am searching both the Maffucci side and the Di Pasquale side. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Joseph
